Description

This opens as a pale yellow, then fades to primrose and suddenly develops a pink tinge which quickly turns to a bicoloured mix of yellow and apricot.  In old age, the flower tends to be pinkish but the yellow colour always predominates. The transient apricot colouring is unique in the genus and blends superbly well with the pale and darker yellow shades usually present on the younger flowers of a spike. Makes several flowers up each 20-40cm stem.

A hybrid, raised by Willem van Eeden from open-pollinated seed and named after one of the daughters of John Amand. It is suspected of being a hybrid involving at least tuolumnense and revolutum. This is supposition based on its appearance and characteristics only and whilst this putative blend is perfectly probable and indeed very likely, the exact parentage is neither documented nor confirmed as it was raised from seed set in the field.

The entire stock, which was being worked up at the van Eeden nursery in Netherlands was lost soon after the first commercial offering was made by John, of this fascinating new colourway. As a result of this setback, during which it persisted in a very few gardens only, it remains scarce still.

Here it does well outside, unprotected, under our standard Erythronium conditions in a light, leafy loam in part, transient shade, drying out a little, naturally, in Summer.
