Eustephia jujuyensis

This plant is offered under its correct name, please see Hieronymiella marginata

Despatch is January to May

Description

The name Eustephia jujuyensis first appeared in the catalogue of Van Tubergen in the 1980s. The name was apparently never published (a botanical nomen nudum) and it was a provisional one attributed to the Amaryllid enthusiast Arthington Worsely, 1861-1944, (of Worsleya fame).

My own notes (of unknown source) say that the plant itself was collected in Jujuy Province of Argentina (in the remote northwest of Argentina) by Blossfeldt, but that Blossfeldt lost both his notes and the locality, on the trip. It was supposedly collected in 1936 however if these notes refer to Karl Blossfeldt (who is the most likely candidate), then he died in 1932.

In fact the plant long-grown as Eustephia jujuyensis is not only grown under a botanically invalid name but it is not even a Eustephia. It is very lovely still, just as growable and very worthy of cultivation, however it is actually Hieronymiella marginata (which itself used to be called Hieronymiella argentina).

We do offer this plant, but it is in fact Hieronymiella marginata, and you can find it on our site here.
