Description
This is the form normally encountered in cultivation with tall and slender stems bearing one or two flowers (rarely three) of lizard green. The inner segments are stained and infused with violet-purple. The three outer petals flare gently, lending a most elegant appearance. The slender stems which can reach 30 cm are clothed with narrow foliage.
An easily grown species, but one that likes a dryish summer rest (not a bake) in a loam based compost or a garden spot. If planted in pots or shallowly, this will make rice grain bulbs around the main bulb. Aim to plant the bulbs 10-12 cm deep to prevent this.
Garden soil, full sun, well-drained.
