Description
(lanceolata)
Fritillaria affinis is a very wide-ranging and variable species. It is spread along the entire length of the North American west coast from Washington State right down to California and inland also. From the cool, moist, northern end of its geographical range comes this shorter, more slender form with burnished red-brown bells of almost reptilian appearance.
Excellent for outside in a sharply-drained, sunny spot and perfectly capable of taking cold (and even very cold) winters if it is drier at the roots. For an American species this form is very tolerant also of damp conditions, even in summer.
