Description

The true species, from the southern Altai mountains of central Asia.

This is not the mass-produced, misnamed, Japanese species Fritillaria thunbergii which does the rounds in the trade under a name it isn’t entitled to.

Very large, flared white bells of good substance, with the protruding nectaries picked out in green and characteristic short segments with the anthers and style protruding. Several, to many, flowers per stem which is clothed in verticillate leaves which twist and curl around adjacent foliage or shrubbery for extra support.
