Description
(a garden clone of elwesii elwesii)
Originally traceable to the garden of the late Sir Frederick Stern, at Highdown, this was passed to the late Michael Hoog many years ago and has since been propagated vegetatively.
It is a main season, clonal form of the species bearing a large, confluent, “waisted”, dark-green mark across most of the width of the inner segments and this extends part-way up the inner petals also. We have found that the exact shape of the green mark does vary a little from season to season, something so slight that it is really only obvious when you compare photographs from different years.
Despite the proliferation of names in this species, neither we nor Michael’s son Antoine, have not been able to match this to any of the existing cultivars, hence it was given a new name sometime before 2009.
First released 2009.
