Description
A fabulous nivalis variant, with the most curious and attractive shape in which the smooth outer petals (which have a lovely thick texture) are flared with an outwards “kick” at the tips. This is especially obvious when the flower is young, extending to a small, sharp point. It’s a hard shape (and flower) to describe, but the flare is very noticeable and characteristic, whilst the shape, in profile, is one which is instantly recognisable. Once you know it you could pick it out amongst hundreds of other Snowdrop cultivars and from a distance too.
Bishop, Davis and Grimshaw write that it is best seen in a clump and this is very true, however you do need patience since even though it is a good grower, it is slow to make increase.
Found by Barrie Turner, in the Wear valley close to the ruins of what is known locally as Finchale Abbey, in 1982. Our plants are traceable back to him via just one careful owner.
