Description
This form, with dark, olive-red/brown bands on the otherwise white, bulb necks, grows only on the summit of the Piketberg, a mountain north of Cape Town.
The species has thin, wire-like, greyish-green leaves which are twisted like corkscrews and then coiled at the tip. They are sheathed by a white and olive bract around the neck of the bulb and the leaves emerge through a frilled and fringed crown.
The flowers are superb, pure white, fragrant funnels and amazingly, are produced in the middle of the summer, which is the hottest and driest period in their native habitats.
The usual care and attention demanded by the genus applies here too.
A smaller species with naturally small bulbs.
