Description
Long-lasting, stunningly intense and brilliant, scarlet-red flowers are arranged along strongly inclined, branched spikes, which can reach 60cm tall. This has narrow flat leaves tinged with purple as are the flower bracts. The flowers have a very curious shape, quite unlike most other species.
This is adapted to South African Sunbird pollination in its native climes but is probably just as welcomed by hummingbirds in the right parts of the USA. Spring flowering, it loves sunshine and fertility but perennates happily in UK and Mediterranean-type climates.
