Description
The true species (unconnected with atrorubens of gardens, which is properly called x hybridus Early Purple).
True atrorubens is variable but is always attractive with deciduous growths, which appear anew each spring with fresh-green, multi-divided leaves topped by flowers with rich, dusky deep violet exteriors which shine through to the inside to give rich wine-red shade. Internally the flowers of this species are always green.
