Description
This was originally raised from seed of a wild population which itself was found in the south western Ukraine, in the vicinity of Sochi and Nalchik.
The population there exhibits a wide variation. It seems that this is not subspecies guttatus in the strict botanical sense, though it is speckled (which is what guttatus means) in a horticulturally very desirable way. It may turn out to be a pale form of abchasicus, as Graham Rice reports similar plants of abchasicus and we also have white forms of this speckled plant.
A selection from the original raising this clone is a superb pink, the shade of true abchasicus with intense spotting in the centre of the flower. First released November 2011.
