Description
Broad outer petals each with a rounded tip, sit behind an inner ring of flattened slightly curling petals (actually these are petalloid anthers) arranged in the form of an overlapping “ruff”. These inners have a slight curl so that they sit up, off the base of the flower, and in doing so they reveal tiny ruby lights that result from pigmentations that would otherwise remain hidden at the base and on their reverse. In the centre is a small, contrasting tuft of moss-green.
The flower appears to be white, but at some stages of flowering there can be a faint violet cast to the main flower whilst a faint green cast can be present in the inner whorls, we have not seen this happen here to any great degree though if you look at our picture, you may just be able to discern a deviance from pure white.
