Description
Hepatica Kouetsu has an outer whorl of 6-9 petals (depending on vigour and establishment) of a lovely red-infused purple. These petals are broad and have rounded tips. There is a very slightly paler, feathered stripe down the centre of each petal. They are almost overlapping and form a lovely balanced ‘disc’ to act as a backdrop to the tight inner whorl which is of a different shade.
This inner frill is fully petalloid and makes a concave frill composed of ring upon ring of small, tightly packed petals, again showing great symmetry. These are paler than the larger petals but are each edged in a deep, red-purple; much redder than the more purple coloured outers.
