Description

Distinctly different, this, so-called ‘bristly hyacinth’ has hairy leaves below 10 cm tall racemes, in the shape of an elongated, round-ended cone composed of about 30, rich blue-violet flowers in April-May.

Like so many members of this charming genus, this remains little known and somewhat neglected, though it is a charming little plant. Originally from Turkey in Central Anatolia, in the area above Ulukisla where it grows on Steep, limestone slopes at around 1500 m. It is hardly known from elsewhere and appears to be a very local plant.

In cultivation it is not difficult and asks only for fertile, loam based compost with a dry summer rest, for success.
