Description
(Scilla lingulata lingulata, Scilla lingulata genuina)
This is a superb Autumnal species from North Africa. In this stock the bulbs and flowers are almost twice as big as the form ciliolata. It differs also in lacking the fine hairs which line the edges of the leaves of ciliolata (and which give that species its name).
This has lovely, gentian-blue flowers with a sweet, light fragrance throughout September and these are born with the leaves.
This one is perhaps best under frost-free glass as the early emerging leaves can be damaged by hard freezes, though we regard the bulbs themselves as hardy here in a well-drained, sunny spot.
