Description

The beautiful wild plant from which the modern monstrosities have been bred, remains elusive, but is one of the loveliest and most delicate of bulbs. Smaller than the ephemeral mutants, the wild type has blue hanging-bell flowers spaced loosely up the stem. These emit the most glorious perfume, which will fill an alpine house, although the bulb grows happily outside and will perfume a large area on a warm still day.

Does not need kilos of pesticides and fertilisers to maintain it, but happy in a fertile, well-drained sunny spot. Limey soil is perfection but acid peat is tolerated.
