Description
Although this came to us as “Ipheion philippii” we believe it to be Ipheion hirtellum as some of the flowers (on larger plants) have 8 petals instead of the usual 6, a feature of much of the hirtellum in cultivation.
Lovely, bright lemon-yellow to gold flowers in amongst narrow leaves. This clumps-up well but itis never a weed and the crowded bulbs make a superb display in Autumn.
Native to parts of Argentina and Uruguay, in open pastures from areas where there is some rainfall all year, thus this is tolerant of water during its summer dormancy.
