Description
A cross of the Per Wendelbo collection of Iris cycloglossa with Iris aucheri. The cycloglossa parent has elegant stems up to 50 cm tall are tightly clothed with thin leaves, almost in the manner of a florists Iris rather than a juno section species. At the summit are borne one to several bright blue and white, strongly clove-scented flowers in May. These open from the top of the spike downwards in classic juno fashion.
The aucheri parent is a much dwarfer plant with larger flowers which are usually paler. In this inspired selection and cross, a selection has been made for the deepest, darkest colouring possible, using the dark indigo form of Iris aucheri. Along the way, the hybrid has lost the pale, or white, splash of colour present on the falls of the cycloglossa parent and inherited instead the beautiful, deep violet shades from the selected aucheri form used, with a lovely yellow crest and crest markings in deep violet. The habit tends more towards cycloglossa and this cross produces the most glorious and ornamental offspring.
Crossed and raised by Arnis Seisums in Latvia.
