Description
A cross of the Wendelbo collection of Iris cycloglossa with Iris aucheri. The cycloglossa parent has elegant stems up to 50 cm tall are tightly clothed with thin leaves, almost in the manner of a florists Iris rather than being a typical juno section species. At the summit are borne one to several bright blue and white, strongly clove-scented flowers in May. These open from the top of the spike downwards in classic juno fashion.
The aucheri parent is a much dwarfer plant with larger flowers and usually paler colouring. In this selection the cross favours the paler colouring of some aucheri forms, whilst retaining the slender, more upright habit of cycloglossa. However it also inherits the cluster flowered habit of both parents on its tall stem and some of the light, spicy scent of cycloglossa.
The markings on the flower, especially in the centre of the petals, are superb. A glorious addition to the range of garden juno hybrids, as this is far more water-tolerant than pure aucheri would be.
Crossed, raised and selected by Arnis Seisums in Latvia.
