Description
Arguably the finest of the Regelia section species, this is vigorous and has large, magnificently marked flowers, up to three, 7cm flowers per stem. These are cream, overlaid with a network of deep maroon veins. The standards have an infusion of violet.
We prefer not to grow this outside totally unprotected but if you do put it in the garden then it will need very good drainage and full sun; a raised bed is ideal or it can be grown in an unheated bulb frame but either way it will need to be covered in the summer to keep off excess water when the rhizomes need to be ripened. We find that this vigorous species can outstrip the nutrients in a pot if grown that way, meaning a subsequent lack of flowers so it will need to be re-potted annually. Afghanistan.
