Description
Vitellius is one of the members of a series of wild selections of Iris stolonifera made some years ago from near the village of Sina. Originally one plant of each was collected and these selections have subsequently been increased in cultivation to give true and even clones.
This has very richly coloured flowers with caramel-brown standards which are finely veined in a deeper brown shade. The median zone is light purple veined in violet and the two, apparently disparate shades, sit very well together. The falls are edged with brown toning through red brown and red purple, to a central purple violet zone with deeper blue-violet veining. The beard is white. A very intensely coloured and rather lovely flower.
