Description
A lovely form with flared flowers of classic harebell (Campanula) shape, hanging at the top of 90 cm stems.
The flowers have thick petals and are white internally, with purple spickling which is crowded around the centre of the flower. The exterior is stained with rich cerise-purple towards the top and the perfection is completed by a superb scent. The form shown here is one that we grew some years ago, the current stock has a much paler background colour. Both forms accord with Sealy’s original description.
It is worth noting however that L. b. yunnanense is variable and so not every last flower will equate with our picture. This natural variability is just how it is and indeed it is how it was originally described by Sealy. Indeed the whole species bakerianum in its five named varieties is characterised by variability within each name and the overall variation of the species from bronze through yellows to white.
Well-drained soil with some humus, we grow ours in partial shade. They appreciate a cool or cold, virtually dry rest in the winter. Moisture at this time can cause moulding or more serious rots.
