Description
Large, strongly fragrant flowers of thick texture which are dusky pink-purple to pink on the exterior and creamy-white inside. From one to ten flowers are borne on each 65-150 cm tall stem.
The white of the inside of the flowers is contrasted with some yellow in the throat and the orangey anthers make a lovely counterpoint.
Introduced in 1835 by F. Brown, an English nurseryman who first flowered the plant and named after him. Its fragrance and ease of growth have marked this out for cultivation in its native China where it has been grown for over 1000 years for medicinal use.
