Description
(syn. konishii)
This is undeniably one of the most beautiful lilies in existence.
It beats the related Lilium speciosum hands down, with a better flower form and the vivid red colouration of the central ring. There are up to five of the white fragrant flowers on each spike, on a stem 60-100 cm tall in August.
This new material is an excellent chance to establish the pure species in its best form before the hybridists seize the opportunity to ruin a uniquely beautiful plant.
This has grown well here in our ordinary garden soil, which is a naturally well-drained, sandy loam, heavily enriched with leaf-matter. It accompanies other light woodland subjects.
