Description
A quiet little dwarfed species with starry flowers of pale greenish-white and purple. They have violet filaments and yellow anthers and from 3-7 of these are held in short, but lax, spikes on slender short stems.
As the name suggests, this is from Chile, it is an endemic of the Maipu province and is not found anywhere else, and there is little else quite like it either (except perhaps the other, endangered, species Miersia cornuta). It has something of the suggestion of a Mediterranean ground 0rchid about the flower though it is not in any way related.
Best treated as being perhaps tender, for now, until this new introduction can be properly tried outside. Either way a well drained gritty loam-based compost in full light is best. An alpine house pot is adequate.
One amazing thing that has recently been observed is that one plant of this species, which was in flower on 23rd January, was still in flower on 7th May, 10 weeks of flowering!
