Description

A gorgeous Moraea making a fibrous-coated corm just 1cm. Its stem is 25-30cm tall with a single leaf. From the base arises a branched stem, the branching depending on vigour and water availability, with white flowers, each 3cm-long petal with a very prominent deep blue centre, this is pubescent and may, sometimes, be outlined with a darker shade of navy blue to near black. This is a stunning plant. This is readily grown in a deep pot of well-drained, sandy compost or in a sunny, well-drained spot outside in very favoured regions.

A rare native of Cape province in South Africa, teetering on the edge of extinction as a truly wild plant and known only from a handful of localities now where it is slowly being exterminated by urban sprawl, though it is apparently a naturalised alien in parts of Victoria, in Australia.
