Description
This has broad petals of soft but bright blue-violet in a typical iris-shaped flower, each marked with a chrome-yellow flash (a nectar guide) on the falls. The plants illustrated are our actual stock.
Small corms with fibrous tunics make stems of around 50-60cm tall, though they can reach as much as 80cm as they become established and the corms get larger. There are one to several, very narrow and strappy leaves.
This likes a sunny situation, in pot or favoured garden spot in the right climates (perhaps not in the UK however). It does like a summer rest but seems to get enough of this in the UK if grown in the right, sunny, well-drained situation outside. It happily takes to pot culture as well and seems to be one of the more tolerant species generally.
Introduced to our lists August 2024
