Description

( syn. Gynandiris sisyrinchium Dwarf)

A lovely miniature Mediterranean representative of the genus – this produces slender foliage and then, in Spring, a short stem is topped by a small to medium-sized (for a dwarf plant at least), fugacious, classically Iris-shaped flower of bright blue which opens in the warmth of the afternoon. Fresh flowers are then produced, in succession, by each plant and this is a new stock of a lovely dwarf form which has very short stems that really do display this dwarf plant to advantage.

Spread in the wild from Portugal as far south as Malta and as far East as Israel, this needs a good warm climate to thrive but does very well when potted and grown as a Crocus in the UK.

A victim of name changes, current botanical thinking suggests that Gynandiris should now be called Moraea.
