Description
Large spikes of bright golden-yellow, tremendously fragrant flowers, in March and April.
In time this species makes large, fat bulbs with perennial roots, quite unlike most other Muscari, and it seldom makes offsets, hence it is brought on (slowly) from seed. One of the very best species and a staggering colour contrast compared to the usual blue forms.
Full sun, well-drained loam soil and then leave it alone and enjoy its unique colour and superb perfume. We keep a few under glass, for seed production, and these fill a large glasshouse with perfume every spring. The latter is a good enough reason on its own to grow the plant, but the colour adds weight to the need to grow this. I love it.
