Description

(ex Taurus seed)

We now offer several different stocks of this fabulous species so to distinguish them, we have appended each with a name. The name “Taurus” distinguishes this stock which is the stock that we used to offer simply under the species name. The stocks themselves have not changed.

This form from the Taurus is slower to increase and is closer to the better known form first described in 1931. It remained more or less unknown until rediscovered by the Mathew-Tomlinson expedition of 1965. However NOT for one moment are we suggesting that this is the M&T stock, it is not, it is from a later, seed collection.

The leaves of this stock are very different and one to two glaucous grey-blue coil on the ground below 10-20cm floral stems. These bear sterile, pink-violet flowers on 5mm pedicels in an apical tuft. The lower, fertile flowers are yellow in this form and are beautifully fragrant. The fertile flowers are not as pendant as our Erzican stock and flowers are rimmed with warm brown (rather than almost black-tipped).

This strain consistently has slightly larger bulbs than the others, but it is slower to increase.
