Description

A poorly understood taxon, named in 1859 which despite being little-known it is said to be widespread in the mountains of central Spain and on the plains to the north.

The flowers vary from about 15mm to as large as 35mm with a narrow, usually plain-edged trumpet held on quite small plants, often on 5cm high, with pale creamy-yellow to almost white flowers infused with, or inclined to , pale green shades. The flower colour is quite unlike the yellowish and citron coloured flowers of its nearest relative N. b. citrinus. The two taxa may overlap a little but John Blanchard considers that graellsii more often has exserted anthers (they stick out beyond the corona) and usually makes shorter stems.

Easily grown in a pan or pot under alpine house glass, in a frame or outside in a sunny, well drained yet moisture retentive spot in sun. It is possible that acid soils give slightly better results but it is hard to be definitive.
