Description

The type species has dark green, rounded leaves borne with the flowers. There are up to six blooms, each a perfect disc made up of wide, overlapping vivid yellow petals set around a very shallow trumpet of the same colour. The flower is sweetly, and very strongly, perfumed.

In the variety henriquesii this shallow trumpet is longer and narrower, and has an unlobed margin. The floral tube is straight, rather than curving. Considered more closely related to fernandesii by John Blanchard.
