Description

(Narcissus johnstonii, N. pseudonarcissus var. johnstonii, N. taitii, N. praviani)

A wild hybrid between N. pseudonarcissus primigenius (which is now a species primigenius) and (true) N. triandrus spp. triandrus, known from one or two places in Portugal and Spain. This was described many years ago by Henriques as well as by Pugsely, each authority using a different name for the same plant (found at different times in different places) and the validity of the naming seems to change regularly. We have listed what we think is everything appropriate as a synonym, above. Some forms of plants now grown as ‘Queen of Spain’ are said to derive from this cross.

Lovely pale yellow trumpets, darker at the base, with sideways-facing, paler petals. The flowers are intermediate in size between the parents though they are still quite miniature.

Very lovely and easily grown either in a pot, or better still planted out in part-shade in a humus-rich soil with decent drainage, but this is a tolerant plant.
