Description

This is a deciduous, autumn flowering, species that grows here outside, on a ‘Mediterranean’ growth cycle. It dies away totally in summer, when it should be warm and dry, to re-emerge in early autumn with its glorious flowers. Ours is a particularly fine form, acquired from the late Clifford Bingham and admired by all who have seen it.

Lovely deep pink crisp-edged flowers that flush in September but persist sporadically until November.

Grows outside in the garden here with no special attention other than being dug up every few years to separate the crowded bulbs, before they stop flowering.

In the wild this occurs in South Africa from the eastern Cape region to Natal.
