Description

This is the name given to a ‘species’ that evolved in horticulture by the intermingling of genes from Forrest’s old collections of aperta, mairei and farreri, by bees, in the Scottish gardens of the late Major and Mrs Knox-Finlay (there is no “d” in their name, it is not Findlay). Incidentally the “-orum” ending shows that the plant is named after more than one person.

The progeny have interbred through many generations until they have reached stability, in effect a “Scottish species”, combining the pink flowers and spotted petals of these superb species with the vigour resulting from their originally hybrid nature. One form is shown, the “swarm” is however slightly variable.

This is the best, most rewarding and most vigorous of the Nomocharis, especially for those growing conditions that do not ideally suit the genus. In conditions that DO suit them, they can make very impressive plants indeed.
