Description
This has small bulbs and shorter, broader leaves than most species, sitting tidily below a compressed spike of flowers.
The spikes are quite short, 30-60 cm tall here, with widely-flaring, hanging bells of intense violet purple.
In common with most of the other species that we offer, this likes a deep rich woodland-type soil in shade, with good shelter from the wind.
Fully hardy and not at all difficult. Like all Notholirion, this is a monocarpic species however the old bulbs are replaced by offsets, which need 2-4 years to reach flowering size again.
