Description
(formerly offered as Paeonia officinalis banatica CH.889)
When we found this back in 1987, it was diagnosed as a form of P. mascula, then, some years later, we were told (“authoritatively”) that it was in fact P. officinalis banatica which was apparently wrong. The stock is now said to belong to the Balkan P. arietina, however regardless of its name it remains a very desirable plant with divided blue-green leaves and superb, large, bowl-shaped flowers of stunning bright pink.
Again I stress that this is the true species grown from seed of our original find from 1987. The true plant is rather slow to make size but these plants grown from seed of our 1987 collection, are large enough.
A rare but highly esteemed early-flowering plant for a well-drained fertile soil in half shade.
