Description
This Greek plant is one of the loveliest though it hovers on the borderline between being hardy and a little tender, as it is very early into leaf and flower. When they do appear (sometimes as early as Christmas) the flowers are pure, ice white though pale pink forms are known, both in the wild and in cultivation. There is no evidence that these are in any way hybrid, it seems simply to be a natural variation. In the centre of each flower sits a cherry red boss, surrounded by a ring of gold anthers.
Very lovely indeed. Seed-raised, flowering sized, traceable originally to the Greek island of Karpathos. First offered 2010.
This makes smaller rootstocks than most of our other Paeonia, and so it is economical to export these. The postage on our other species is simply too much to be able to export rthem.
