Description
This is a pure white flowered Turkish variant of the very variable Paeonia mascula. It is said to differ from the white Greek subspecies (hellenica) in several leaf characters though the two are remarklably similar, and equally gorgeous, in flower.
It bears large, pure white, bowl-shaped flowers in May. The centres are picked out by a halo of suplhur yellow anthers surrounding the green, red-tinted, carpels.
A new and barely known plant from the mountains around Kaz Dag in N.W. Turkey described in 1995.
