Description
This is a distinct strain of Podophyllum hexandrum, originally of Pakistani provenance and raised from Swedish Expedition to Pakistan seed (SEP.266).
A superb, long-lived peat or shade-garden subject. The shiny tooth-edged leaf sits below a very attractive, large flower which in this form is pure white. The flower has a green ovary surrounded by yellow anthers. The bloom, may, with age, develop a slight pink tinge as often happens in white, woodland flowers. The flowers are followed by a spectacular large pulpy fruit (which should not be eaten, as it both purgative and emetic) that ripens to vivid scarlet.
These are lovely nursery-grown plants raised from seed of plants raised from the original seed collection from Pakistan. The flower colour usually comes true. Best left to establish, they will go from strength to strength.
for UK customers ONLY
NOT available for EU, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, U.S.A. etc. Podophyllum hexandrum is the only CITES registered Podophyllum (no other species are affected). These are no longer shipped outside of the UK because of the high cost and excessive bureaucracy associated with CITES permits.
