Description
(syn. commutatum)
In contrast to unselected biflorum, this form is only 40-50 cm tall, though it can be a little taller in shade. It has strong arching stems clothed with rounded, ribbed leaves and flowers every bit as large as the plain forms. They hang in small clusters below each of the leaf axils. These flowers are pure white, of good substance and each is tipped with green. There is a lovely, sweet-shop fragrance around them when they are in flower.
A good grower and increases well making a tightly knit clump without being invasive. These are clonal plants increased here from a solitary rhizome, originally from West Virginia. The wild range runs across quite a limited area from there up to Maryland in the NE USA.
