Description

Resnova is a fascinating new genus, in which there are only two species, both from South Africa. They bear a pair of broad, waxy-looking leaves at ground level. They are highly decorative and this glorious foliage is one of the main reasons for growing the plant.

There are various permutations of colour within the first species to be found megaphylla, but we are offering what we think is a very good one with large, clear dark army-green spots and underlying dark slate markings on mostly silvery coloured leaves. These are unique and really spectacular.

The flower spike, which appears between the leaves, comprises a sympathetically coloured violet stem bearing small violet-purple bell-shaped flowers on short pedicels. The plant is mainly desirable for its unique leaves, but the flowers are an additional bonus.

Well-drained, sandy soil. They are not hardy in the UK and need to be grown under glass. Outside of the UK and in warmer, more Mediterranean climes, these may grow outside with careful cultivation. This is ideal in a pot as the whole plant in full leaf is only 10-12 cm across.

These are raised from seed of European cultivated plants and are in northern hemisphere timing.
