Description
(Othocallis)
Another species which has the general overall shape of the lovely siberica, but this Caucasian species has larger flowers and more of them on each compact raceme and they are of an especially intense and attractive blue. This stock, originally from Zangezur, is seed-sterile. It may be clonal and thus potentially self-sterile (we do not know), but based on this sterility and other morphological features there has been a suggestion that is is “something different” or even, perhaps, a new and separate species which is as yet un-named.
A lovely mountain plant very hardy and well worthy of cultivation. Happy in a sunny, well-drained spot in the open garden where it revels in a humus-rich, but well-drained soil with us.
