Description

A native of the Middle East spread by ancient cultures across Asia and Europe.

In March and April it makes stems up to 80 cm tall with buds that open, along its length, so that flowering is over a long period, and it makes a good cut flower (it is said to be grown as such in Israel). The pale blue starry flowers are very decorative.

Poor soil in a sunny spot, as flowering is best in arid, stony conditions as it will luxuriate at the expense of flowers in richer soils.

We have a very small stock of plants traceable to the island of Elba.Scilla hyacinthoides
