Description
(Othocallis)
A gorgeous form with unique, pale yet brighter flowers of a lovely sky blue, infused, perhaps with a hint of turquoise. Our original source regards this as one of the loveliest forms and it is hard to disagree with that. It is very distinct indeed, the paler petals contrast beautifully with the central dark blue midvein of each petal. Blue pollen and a small, yellowish ovary add just the right amount of contrast.
Up to seven flowers are borne on each scape, but each bulb can form up to 5 scapes when large and mature, in the manner of the more well-known Scilla siberica ingridae.
Fertile, garden soil with humus, in a sunny spot. The various forms of the plain species present no problems and this superb form is no exception to that rule of thumb.
Introduced to our lists October 2017.
