Description
Sternbergia angustifolia is a reliable garden species with slender chanelled leaves bearing a faint central silver stripe. The leaves die away in summer but are present with the bright yellow cones which appear on short stems throughout the autumn.
This has been considered by some to be a possible wild hybrid between sicula and lutea which might explain both its vigour and floriferous nature.
Likes a well-drained, warm, sunny position. Classical wisdom says try it at the base of a south-facing wall for the best flowering.
