Description

Numerous, bright yellow funnels starting in September but lasting as late as the first days of December if the bubs are late planted. The flowers are shaped like a miniature Sternbergia lutea but they are held, more or less horizontally, on long tubes. The capsules are held in the same sideways position when they ripen in March, though we do NOT increase by seed here and increase is by pea-sized offsets made on the end of short stolons.

This is a much smaller plant than most of the S. greuteriana strains usually encountered and is one of the smallest of our forms. It is a clone, which originated with Lee Martin and for which he obtained a Certificate of Merit. It was originally selected for its dwarfed, tidy habit. It is smaller than most and, being clonal, it is much more constant and even than most other forms. I repeat – we propagate this as a named form only by vegetative increase and not by seed.

Sunny, well drained loam soil, dry in summer and recorded as hardy to -12°C. Also a superb subject for the alpine house.
