Description
Long, thin, upright, dark plum-purple petals, which are much longer than they are wide, give this an elongated appearance. With age the petals roll which accentuates their comparative narrowness. The plant is one of the larger species, and it can make an impressive specimen with massive purple-speckled leaves and it does well in the open garden here.
A little seen endemic of the Sierras of California, where it often grows in company with Sequoiadendron.
Sometimes confused both with chloropetalum and the dissimilar kurabayashi but totally distinct from both.
