Description

An excellent, easy, dependable garden species with polished mahogany flowers with a black nose above plain green, un-mottled leaves.

Increasingly the true plant is getting harder to find as a host of changelings and hybrids take its place. Ours are cultivated true-to-name, five-six year old flowered seedlings, with red petals and yellow pollen as they should have. (plants with whitish or grey pollen, or with unripened anthers which look almost black are T. sulcatum or a hybrid).

This grows very well in the garden here, it is a trouble-free and rather lovely species, perhaps a little on the small flowered side but that is the nature of the species.

This season (2024) we have a nice new stock of true-to-name mature, flowered, nursery-raised plants.
