Description

At last the fabulous pink grandiflorum is available in reasonable numbers. The wonderful Daisy Hill strain is the seed source and straight from germination these youngsters have made the diagnostic light-green foliage of their parents, quite unlike the normal white-flowered plant, which has comparatively dark green leaves.

Those that have flowered have produced a very high percentage of pink flowers. In a group of a dozen of these seedlings, flowering spring 2006, all bar one were some shade of good shell-pink. The pink is a little less intense than the deep pink of the Daisy Hill type but these are more affordable and in greater supply. The seedlings (and Daisy Hill) all darken further with age.

In addition, these seedlings are much more vigorous than divisions of Daisy Hill replanted at the same time. A fabulous chance to get a stunning plant. These are five year plants. I would not claim that they were flowering size, they look small, but some have flowered already and many have buds present and will do so next year. ‘Pinkness’ is not guaranteed, only a strong probability but these are genuine seedlings of an excellent plant.
